This is the first map of Hawaii printed in Hawaii by a Hawaiian.
Drawn and engraved by a student at the Lahainaluna Seminary on the island of Maui, the map is one of the most significant maps of Hawai’i ever produced. This is one of the first maps of Hawaii made by Hawaiians and reflects the proficiency which the students of Lahainaluna achieved in a short period of time. The maps printed at Lahainaluna reflected the proficiency which the students at Lahainaluna achieved in a short period of time and corrected major errors in existing maps of Hawai’i and was instrumental in preserving the names of basic Hawaiian land subdivisions.
